Tesla Virtual Power Plant
Find information on what a virtual power plant (VPP) is and how you can join Tesla VPP programs as a Powerwall owner.
What is a Virtual Power Plant
A virtual power plant (VPP) is a network of distributed energy sources such as homes with solar and battery systems, working together as a single power plant. The combined energy of these sources is used to support the electrical grid. Participating members can give the VPP program permission to use their energy as a resource during high demand events and generate value through their participation.
Tesla VPP Programs
Tesla VPP programs aggregate the clean renewable energy stored in thousands of Powerwalls installed in people’s homes to produce a network of on demand energy that supports your local grid in the most critical times. Tesla VPP programs are designed to:
- Stabilize the grid with clean energy
- Earn you compensation with program-based incentives
- Maintain your energy security by preserving Powerwall’s ability to provide backup power
How to Participate if You Own a Powerwall
Depending on the program and area, eligible owners can sign up for Tesla VPP programs in the Tesla app or through a Tesla partner such as a utility, or certified installer.
If you don't own a Powerwall, schedule a virtual consultation with a Tesla Advisor to learn more about Powerwall.
