What Can Powerwall Back Up

Powerwall is designed to store solar generation for use at night and protect against power outages. How much your Powerwall can back up and for how long is dependent on multiple factors such as the number of Powerwalls and appliances you have and your home’s energy usage.

Depending on the number of Powerwalls and type of backup protection, what your Powerwall can back up includes 120 V loads such as lights, plugs and small appliances as well as 240 V heavy loads such as air conditioners, electric cooking ranges, well pumps, EV charging, electric dryers, electric water heaters and pool pumps.

Types of Backup Protection

The energy needs of your home and the number of Powerwalls determine whether whole home backup or partial home backup is provided.

Whole Home Backup

With whole home backup, your Powerwall will be able to support your entire home including all appliances during a power outage.

Partial Home Backup

Partial home backup allows you to choose the essential loads to back up, such as lights and outlets, and leave out heavier loads, such as air conditioners and washing machines. When the grid is operational, you will be able to use and monitor all appliances. When the grid is down, only the loads you deem essential will be usable.
