Ordering a Tesla Vehicle

Once you decide which model is right for you, you can place your order online or visit a Tesla store. The ordering process only takes a few minutes.

Additionally, you can choose to order a demo vehicle, which is a Tesla vehicle that has been used for demonstration purposes such as demo drives or showroom staging.

Scheduling a Demo Drive

Schedule a demo drive appointment online to experience driving a Tesla vehicle. Walk-in availability is limited, so we encourage you to schedule in advance. See how you can prepare for your appointment and what to expect for your demo drive.

Ordering Your Vehicle

Design your Model S, Model 3, Model X or Model Y. For more immediate delivery, explore the available inventory of Tesla vehicles in your area. When placing your order, you will pay a one-time, non-refundable order fee with a credit card.

After your order is placed, you will receive a confirmation email with details about when you can expect your vehicle to be delivered. Delivery timing varies by model, location and current availability.

Paying for Your Vehicle

Depending on what state you live in, you can choose to lease the vehicle, purchase with financing or purchase outright. You may also be able to trade in your current vehicle and apply the trade-in value toward your new Tesla vehicle purchase.

Prior to your delivery date, confirm your payment method with your Tesla Advisor and pay the amount due in your Tesla Account.

For final payment, we accept:

  • Electronic check (direct debit) in the Tesla app
  • Wire transfer
  • Certified check at time of delivery with your Reference Number (RN) and name in the memo line

Note: The total amount for your final payment must come from a single account. Leasing and financing are contingent on credit approval and not available in all states.

Preparing for Delivery

After placing your order, use the same email address and password you used to place your order and sign in to your Tesla Account. In your account, follow the prompts to provide your information, including trading in your used vehicle, registration and delivery details.

If you are trading in your vehicle, connect with your Tesla Advisor to ensure you have all items prepared including your title, lien release or any other supplementary documents to transfer ownership to Tesla. If you’re still making active payments on your trade-in vehicle, refrain from paying off the loan to prevent a delay in your delivery and provide a smooth transfer of ownership.

Review your plan for charging your vehicle at home and order charging accessories.

You can check your estimated delivery timing in your Tesla Account or order confirmation email.

Taking Delivery of Your Vehicle

Once your vehicle is ready, a Tesla Advisor will review your delivery options and available locations with you.

To prepare for delivery day and ensure you have a seamless experience, we recommend completing all pre-delivery tasks in advance, such as submitting your insurance details, final payment, trade-in payoff amounts and other necessary documents prior to your appointment.
