Getting Started With Your Tesla Vehicle

After taking delivery of your vehicle, discover and learn more about what your Tesla vehicle has to offer. If you have not yet taken delivery, prepare by reviewing what to expect on your delivery day. Set Up the Tesla App

The Tesla app provides access to your vehicle from anywhere as long as your phone and your Tesla vehicle have connectivity. Download and sign in to the Tesla app. Enable mobile app access from your vehicle touchscreen by tapping ‘Controls’ > ‘Safety’ > ‘Mobile Access.’

From the Tesla app home screen, you can view the status of your vehicle, lock or unlock your vehicle, manage climate control and more. Learn more about the Tesla app and view video guides to explore vehicle features.

Access Your Vehicle

Your vehicle supports three types of keys: phone key, key cards and key fobs. Extra backup key cards and key fobs can be purchased from the Tesla Shop. Your phone serves as your primary key through a Bluetooth connection with your vehicle. To set up your phone key, download the latest version of the Tesla app and enable Bluetooth on your mobile device. After enabling Bluetooth, follow these steps while standing near your vehicle:

  1. Open the Tesla app.
  2. Select your vehicle.
  3. Next to ‘Phone Key,’ tap the ‘Set Up’ button.

Note: To access this feature, you must have Tesla app version 4.20 or higher. Make sure you have the latest version of the app by updating the Tesla app on your mobile device.

If automatic phone key setup is unsuccessful, the Tesla app will instruct you on how to complete the setup using your backup key card. Select your model below to learn more about setting up your phone key:

Charge Your Vehicle

Tesla provides multiple charging options. Whether you’re on the road or at home, you can find the right charging option based on your needs.

Tesla recommends that you charge where you park with a Wall Connector which quickly charges your Tesla vehicle overnight. There are a variety of charging options available depending on your lifestyle.

Travel long-distance using Tesla’s Supercharger network. Tesla operates the largest global, fast charging network in the world with Tesla Superchargers. Drive for a few hours, stop to refresh and repeat – just like in any other vehicle. Use Tesla’s Destination Charging sites and third-party charging stations for extra convenience once you get where you’re going. Find out more on how you can stay charged while you’re on the road.

Certain high data usage vehicle features require at least Standard Connectivity, including maps, navigation and voice commands. Access to features that use cellular data and third-party licenses are subject to change. Learn more about Standard Connectivity and any limitations. Feature availability varies based on model, configuration and connectivity plan and more. Many features can be added via over-the-air software updates.
