Connecting Your Powerwall With Limited Connectivity

If you lose internet or cellular connection, see how you can monitor your system’s power flow and charge level locally or offline from the Tesla app.

Note: To access this feature, your Powerwall must have firmware version 24.36 or later and you must have the latest version of the Tesla app.

How It Works

You can still monitor your energy system from the Tesla app although some features may be unavailable when your internet or cellular connection goes down. With limited or no connectivity, your Powerwall and the Tesla app continue to communicate locally from the same network and allow you to monitor your system while offline.

Note: Your mobile device must be actively connected to the network for you to continue to monitor your Powerwall, regardless of whether you lose internet or cellular connection.

How to Use It

Before Enabling Local Monitoring

Before you can start monitoring your Powerwall locally or offline, your mobile device must be paired with your Powerwall. If you have already used features such as Go Off-Grid or Service Mode, your mobile device is already paired with your Powerwall.

If your mobile device is not paired with your Powerwall, open the Tesla app and complete the following steps:

  1. From the home screen, open the ‘Settings’ menu.
  2. Tap ‘Phone Pairing’ > ‘Begin Pairing.’

Note: If multiple users are associated with your Powerwall, each mobile device must be paired with your Powerwall to access features such as monitoring offline.

Connecting to the Same Network

As long as your Powerwall and the Tesla app stay actively connected to the same network even when your internet or cellular connection goes down, your Powerwall and the Tesla app will continue to communicate locally to provide live power flow, Energy Data and more.

To check if your Powerwall is connected to the same network as your mobile device, follow these steps:

  1. From the home screen, open the ‘Settings’ menu.
  2. Tap ‘Wi-Fi’ at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Review your current Wi-Fi network and make sure your Powerwall is connected to the same network as your mobile device.

Note: Your home network may have 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks. They are considered two different networks. Ensure that your mobile device and Powerwall are on the same Wi-Fi frequency.

Enabling Local Monitoring

Once your Powerwall and mobile device are connected to the same network, you can start monitoring your energy system offline.

When your internet or cellular connection goes down during events such as a power outage, you will see a banner on the energy home screen of the Tesla app.

The energy home screen of the Tesla app will display the ‘Limited Connectivity’ banner when the connection goes down. Your Powerwall and the Tesla app will continue to communicate locally and provide you with live power flow and more.
