Contract Hire

Contract Hire is a flexible finance solution which is offered by Tesla Financial Services.

Payments

Your first payment is a pro-rata based rate and will be due 10 days after delivery. All remaining payments will be due on the 11th of each month. The due date cannot be changed. The payments will be labelled “Adyen Payments”. It usually takes 3-5 working days after initiation until the payment is debited from your account.

If a payment fails, you will be informed by email. Please follow the instructions in the email to make the payment.

You can view and change your bank account details by:

  1. Sign in to your Tesla Account
  2. Select ‘Manage’ > ‘Manage Lease' (under ‘Lease Management’) > ‘Edit’ > 'Change' > '+' to access the BACS Direct Debit portal, then add a new account
  3. Verify data and select 'Continue.' This will prompt a £0.00 verification transaction
  4. Print or save the new mandate for your own administration
  5. Send a copy of the mandate to FinanceAgreementUK@tesla.com

After setting up a new mandate, please do not initiate a one-time payment via your account as this could interfere with creation of the mandate. The new mandate needs 3-4 days to be successfully created.

Permissible Origin of Payment

As an FCA regulated company, Tesla Financial Services Limited must enforce specific payment criteria:

  • The transfer must be initiated by the person who has entered into a contractual relationship with Tesla Financial Services Limited
  • Down payments, one-off and settlement payments must be made by wire
  • Monthly payments must be made by Direct Debit
  • Refunds can only be made to the initial payer

Traffic Fines

As the Registered Keeper of the vehicle, Tesla Financial Services will receive notification of traffic violations (parking, bus lane, etc.) associated with your leased Tesla and will settle them on your behalf. Tesla will issue an invoice for the penalty charge amount in addition to a £10 administrative fee. This will be collected via direct debit alongside your next monthly payment. Kindly review your lease agreement for additional policy information.

Damage, Warranty and MOT

If your Tesla is damaged, you are responsible for its repair. Please refer to our Body Shop Network for support.

For any warranty related issues, please schedule a Service Centre appointment via your Tesla App. For warranty or vehicle related complaints, please raise with the relevant Service Centre directly to solve your issue. Learn more about warranty.

If your vehicle is declared a total loss, please reach out to FinanceAgreementUK@tesla.com. Your contract will be terminated upon receiving the settlement amount from the insurance.

Keep in mind that under terms 3.2 and 3.3 of your Contract Hire Agreement you have the responsibility to effect and maintain a valid MOT. You can always find your agreement in the Documents section of your Tesla account.

Unfortunately, Tesla does not provide this service, but you can go to any MOT Centre across the UK to renew it. You can find a list of all MOT testing centres across the country on the official government website.

Should you require a copy of your logbook or any other documents, reach out to FinanceAgreementUK@tesla.com.

Insurance and Tax

Per the Personal Contract Hire agreement, you must obtain Fully Comprehensive coverage and list Tesla Financial Services, Ltd as the Registered Keeper: Tesla Financial Services Limited, 185 Ashton New Rd, Manchester, M11 3DX, United Kingdom.

Note: Your Personal Contract Hire does not include GAP Insurance. While not mandated, we encourage customers to obtain GAP Insurance for best coverage.

Tesla taxes your vehicle but you remain responsible for ensuring the MOT is carried out and insurance is in place to allow the vehicle to be taxed.

Changes to agreement and vehicle

All terms agreed upon in the contract are fixed and cannot be changed, including but not limited to:

  • Mileage change
  • Due date change
  • Term
  • Monthly payment
  • Type of contract
  • Software packages included in your contract

Changes to the vehicle are allowed, under the condition that the vehicle is returned in the state that it has been delivered, meaning all changes have to be reverted upon return or Tesla holds the right to charge you for it (e.g. tinted windows, vehicle tyres).

Software packages cannot be enrolled in your lease contract after signing, the only option would be to purchase the upgrades cash or wait for an upcoming subscription feature. You are allowed to put a private plate on your vehicle. Learn more about important documents.

Early Lease Termination

You are able to terminate your lease early at all times by paying an early termination fee. To terminate your lease early, please follow these steps:

  • Generate the Quote
Select ‘Financing’ > ‘Lease Details’ > ‘Manage Lease’ > ‘Early Lease Termination’.
Please note that this shows you a quote but does not start the termination. The quote is the amount at which you can return the vehicle to Tesla and thus terminate your lease. Costs for a wear and tear will be added to it.
  • Accept the Quote
In your profile, you are able to accept the quote which will trigger the start of the return. You will receive an automated confirmation email.
  • Inspection
For your return you need to inspect your vehicle. After you accept the quote, you will receive an email with a link guiding you to the inspection. Inspection is done via a third party called 'Dekra'. You can perform the inspection yourself through the Dekra Portal by uploading pictures of the vehicle. Alternatively, you can request someone to inspect the vehicle. It takes up to 7 days until your inspection report is ready.
  • Return
After you and we have received the inspection report, you will be able to return the vehicle.

Tesla will reach out to you to schedule the exact date, time and location for the return. If there is payment due, you will be requested to pay the full amount to the payment details provided.

Commercial Use

Commercial use of leased vehicles is not allowed. As the registered keeper, Tesla retains the V5C and you cannot apply for a PSV.

Lease End

Tesla will contact you before your lease ends to provide you with information regarding your lease end. An extension of the lease is not possible.

When your agreement ends your vehicle must undergo an inspection with our partner DEKRA before returning it to a nearby Tesla location. We will provide relevant information on how to perform the inspection and where to return your Tesla prior to the end of your personal contract hire. You will be presented with a full breakdown of potential excess mileage charges and excess wear and tear items before you return your Tesla to us.

You will then return the vehicle to the nearest Tesla location and be requested to pay any amounts remaining under your personal contract hire agreement.

Miles

If the vehicle is driven more than the agreed mileage per year and returned to us, you will pay us 16.5 pence per mile (plus VAT) for the first 10,000 miles—and 16.4 pence per mile (plus VAT) thereafter. Different rates might be applicable for you. Please review your contract for Excess Mileage Charges. There will be no refund for less driven miles.

Financial Difficulties

If you are having difficulty making your payment, you can contact our Financial Service Team or refer to local non-profit organisations. For more information, contact us or review the Financial Conduct Authority's Arrears Information Sheet.

Complaints

If you would like to raise a formal complaint, please refer to our complaints procedure.
