Tesla Account Security
Your Tesla Account contains owner resources, guides, payment information and important updates. It’s important that you take the necessary steps to keep your account and sign-in information private and protected. Your Tesla Account password should be unique and not shared with any other accounts.
Multi-factor authentication protects your Tesla Account by requiring an additional form of verification before signing in. Setting up multi-factor authentication means you’ll be required to enter your account sign-in credentials and verify your identity from a registered device each time you sign in.
Tesla provides third-party mobile and web app developers with the ability to use Tesla’s API to develop and offer apps in connection with your Tesla product. If you connect your Tesla Account with a third-party app, Tesla shares only the data categories you have consented to with the third-party app. You can manage or revoke your consent for data sharing with these apps at any time through your Tesla Account or through the third-party app itself (where available).
Third-party apps found on the internet that do not use Tesla’s API may not contain the software they claim to or may contain software that you didn't expect or want. If installed, an unverified or untrusted third-party app may become intrusive, drain your battery, misuse your personal information, cause security vulnerabilities, software instability and disruption of services. We recommend that you do not connect your Tesla Account with any unverified or unauthorized third-party apps, whether on a mobile device or website.
If you receive an email or see a message that your Tesla Account, Tesla vehicle or the Tesla app has a virus, or someone claiming to be from Tesla calls to request your username and password, you’re likely the target of phishing. Phishing tricks people into sharing personal information through emails, texts, ads or phone calls. Tesla will never ask for your username or password to verify your identity. If you have any doubts about a request or communication, contact customer support directly.
