Model S and Model X Driver Airbag Replacement Recall

Tesla has issued a voluntary recall on certain model year 2024 and 2025 Model S and Model X vehicles manufactured between November 6, 2024, and November 27, 2024, to replace the driver airbag.

What is the issue?

On affected vehicles, the driver airbag may have been damaged during supplier assembly process. When coupled with a deep fold in the airbag fabric or positioning of the heat diffuser, the damage could cause a tear during deployment.

All owners can check if their VIN is affected by using either the Tesla VIN Recall Search or the NHTSA VIN Recall Search tools.

Is my car safe to drive?

An airbag that tears during deployment may not perform to design specifications, increasing the risk of injury during a crash. However, Tesla is not aware of any collisions, fatalities or injuries that are or may be related to the condition.

What is the recall remedy and how long does it take to perform?

At no charge to the customer, Tesla will replace the recalled driver airbag assembly with an airbag of certified quality. The remedy repair should take no longer than 10 minutes to perform.

Do I need to make a service appointment for this recall?

To complete the remedy repair, schedule a service appointment using the Tesla app by selecting ‘Service’ > ‘Request Service’ > ‘Other’ > ‘Something Else’ and entering the note “Open Recall Repair – Driver Airbag Replacement” into the ‘Describe Concern’ field.
