Software Updates

Tesla vehicles regularly receive over-the-air software updates that add new features and enhance existing ones over Wi-Fi.

Installing Software Updates

You can check for new software updates by opening the ‘Software’ tab on your touchscreen. If a new update is available, you’ll receive a notification on your center touchscreen display, with the option to install the update immediately or schedule for later. You can also check for available updates in the Tesla app. If an update is available, you will see a ‘Software Update’ section on the main page of the app. To ensure the fastest and most reliable delivery of software updates, connect your vehicle to Wi-Fi.

Changing Software Update Preferences

You can adjust your software update preferences by tapping ‘Controls’ > ‘Software’ > ‘Software Update Preference.’ You can select between ‘ADVANCED’ or ‘STANDARD.’ Select ‘ADVANCED’ to receive software updates as soon as they become available for your vehicle configuration and region. This feature is only available with software update 2019.16 or later.

Your owner’s manual will have step-by-step instructions on how to download software updates and adjust your software update preferences.

For the latest and greatest information that is customized to your vehicle, view the Owner’s Manual on your vehicle’s touchscreen by tapping ‘Controls’ > ‘Service’ > ‘Owner’s Manual.’ The information is specific to your vehicle depending on the features you purchased, vehicle configuration, market region and software version.
