Managing Access With Third-Party Apps

Tesla provides third-party mobile and web app developers with the ability to use Tesla’s API to develop and offer apps in connection with your Tesla product.

You Choose What Data to Share and With Whom

Each third-party app is required to ask for your permission so you can choose what data to share. The first time a third-party app wants to access your Tesla product information such as service history, location or charging data, you will receive a selection prompt. Even if you grant access, you can revoke it at any time.

Review the data categories available for third-party apps:

    • Profile Information: Includes data such as your contact information, profile photo and referral information
    • Vehicle Information: Includes data such as your vehicle’s live data, service history, service scheduling data, service communications, eligible upgrades, nearby Superchargers and ownership details
    • Vehicle Location: Includes your vehicle’s precise location and coarse location for approximate location services
    • Vehicle Commands: Includes commands such as add/remove driver, access Live Camera, unlock, wake-up, remote start and schedule software updates
    • Vehicle Charging Management: Includes data such as your vehicle’s charging history, billed amount, charging location, commands to schedule and start/stop charging
    • Energy Product Information: Includes data such as your product’s energy flow history, saving forecast, tariff rates, grid import, calendar, site status, time of use and ownership
    • Energy Product Settings: Includes commands such as updates to Storm Watch mode and off-grid charging reserve

Before downloading the app and granting permission:

    • Review the third-party app’s website for details about the app.
    • Ensure you trust the app source, as some apps may not contain the software they claim to or may contain software that you didn't expect or want.
    • Know that the data you choose to share is subject to the terms and conditions and privacy policies of the third-party app, not Tesla’s Privacy Notice.
    Dedication to Privacy and Security

Third-party apps are required to adhere to Tesla’s Fleet API terms and data privacy standards. This includes only strictly and transparently requesting data categories that are required for the app to function. Third-party apps are also prohibited from selling your personal data to anyone for any purpose. Review our Fleet Validation Privacy Notice for additional information.

Note: When connecting your Tesla Account with a third-party app, you are interacting with the third-party app, not Tesla. Tesla’s data privacy and security commitments are not affected. Tesla does not associate vehicle data with your identity or account by default. For example, if you grant a third-party app permission to access your vehicle’s location, this is shared with the third-party directly. Tesla will not have knowledge of your activities, location, history or where you’ve been. Learn more about how Tesla protects your data by reviewing our Customer Privacy Notice.
