Update Vehicle Firmware for Unintended Front Hood Opening
Tesla has voluntarily issued a recall on certain model year (MY) 2021-2024 Model 3 vehicles equipped with a hood latch produced in China and all MY 2021-2024 Model S, MY 2021-2024 Model X and MY 2020-2024 Model Y vehicles to correct a condition that prevents driver notification of an open hood state in certain situations. On affected vehicles, the latch assembly may not detect an open condition which prevents driver notification of the open hood state when the vehicle is placed into drive.
Beginning June 18, 2024, at no cost to customers, affected vehicles received an over-the-air software remedy with firmware release 2024.20.3, which detects the open hood and provides a customer-facing user interface notification of the open hood state.
Is my car affected by this recall?
All owners can check if their vehicle is affected by entering their VIN in the Tesla VIN Recall Search tool. At no cost to customers affected vehicles received an over-the-air software remedy with firmware release 2024.20.3. Firmware release 2024.20.3 or a later firmware release detects the open hood and provides a customer-facing user interface notification of the hood open state. No further action is necessary from owners whose vehicles are equipped with the upcoming software release.

What is this issue and how does it affect my vehicle?
On the affected population, after a customer action opens the hood, the latch assembly may not detect an open condition which prevents driver notification of the hood open state when the vehicle is placed into drive.
Is my car safe to drive?
Unknowingly driving a vehicle with an unlatched hood may result in the hood fully opening and obstructing the driver’s view, increasing the risk of a collision. We are not aware of any crashes or injuries resulting from this condition.
Do I need to make a service appointment for this recall?
No. This recall is addressed by updating the vehicle software to 2024.20.3 or later releases and does not require the customer to schedule a service appointment.
