Update Vehicle Firmware to Correct Loss of Back Up Camera Feed

Tesla has issued a recall on certain Model S, Model X and Model 3 vehicles equipped with the Full Self-Driving Computer 4.0 and running a software release version from 2023.44.30 through 2023.44.30.6, or 2023.44.100. Insufficient inter-integrated circuit protocol stability may prevent the rear-view camera image from displaying upon shifting into reverse. Unavailability of the rear-view camera image display upon starting a backing event may affect the driver’s rear visibility and increase the risk of a collision.

Software release 2023.44.30.7 or a later release incorporates sufficient inter-integrated circuit protocol stability to allow the rear-view camera image to display, for Model 3 in compliance with UNECE R158. On December 29, 2023, Software release 2023.44.30.7 began over-the-air (“OTA”) deployment to the vehicle fleet.

What is this issue?

On certain affected vehicles equipped with full self-driving computer 4.0 and running a software release version from 2023.44.30 through 2023.44.30.6, or 2023.44.100, insufficient inter-integrated circuit protocol stability may prevent the rear-view camera image from displaying.

Is my car affected by this recall and what should I do?

All owners can check if their VIN is affected by using the Tesla VIN Recall Search or the NHTSA VIN Recall Search tools. Software release 2023.44.30.7 or later releases incorporate sufficient inter-integrated circuit protocol stability to allow the rear-view camera image to display. No service visit is necessary, and no further action is necessary from owners whose vehicles are equipped with software release 2023.44.30.7 or a later software release.

Is my vehicle safe to drive?

Unavailability of the rear-view camera display upon shifting into reverse may affect the driver’s rear visibility and increase the risk of a collision. The driver may continue to reverse the vehicle by performing a shoulder check and using their mirrors. Tesla is not aware of any crashes, injuries or deaths relating to this condition.

Do I need to make a service appointment for this recall?

No. This recall is addressed by updating the vehicle software to version 2023.44.30.7 or a later release and does not require the owner to schedule a Service appointment.
