Update Vehicle Software to Enable B-Pillar Blindness Detection
Tesla issued a recall on certain Model S, Model X, Model 3 and Model Y vehicles equipped with the Full Self-Driving Computer 4.0 and running a software release version from 2023.32.4 through 2024.26.7.
With firmware release 2023.32.4 for AP HW4 vehicles, the neural network responsible for detecting blindness was not scheduled to run on the B-pillar camera when FSD was not toggled on. This means when Autosteer functions outside of FSD are in operation, the system is not capable of detecting camera blindness. ECE R79.03, 3.5.6.2 & 5.6.4.8.4 require the system to provide a customer-facing alert of the camera blindness and that the system prevent the vehicle from performing a lane change maneuver during such condition. Tesla’s type approval required each individual camera be assessed as an isolated component to trigger such conditions.
What is the issue?
On the affected population, under certain conditions, the vehicle does not detect or notify the driver of a blocked B-Pillar camera when using Autosteer functions. This does not comply with UNECE regulation which require the system to provide a customer-facing alert of the camera blindness and that the system prevent the vehicle from performing a lane change maneuver during such condition.
Is my car affected by this recall and what should I do?
All owners can check if their VIN is affected by using the Tesla VIN Recall Search tool. At no cost to customers affected vehicles receive an over-the-air software remedy with firmware release 2024.26.7. No further action is necessary from owners whose vehicles are equipped with the required software release or above.

Is my car safe to drive?
Tesla’s object detection system works collectively with a suite of cameras which have detection overlap and a video-based neural network to assure lane changes are safely performed even with the loss of the B-pillar camera. All other camera blindness detection remained and remains functional. As a result, an unreasonable risk to safety is not present if only the pillar camera is blocked.
Do I need to make a service appointment for this recall?
No. This recall is addressed by updating the vehicle software to 2024.26.7 or later releases and does not require the owner to schedule a Service appointment.
