Charging

You have a variety of convenient charging options that can accommodate your lifestyle and driving needs. Whether you’re at home or on the road, you can charge a Tesla vehicle anywhere with access to an outlet.

Where You Park

We recommend charging where you park to meet most of your charging needs.

Wall Connector

Wall Connector offers the fastest charging speed for your home or office, adding up to 71 kilometers of range per hour of charge. You can order a Wall Connector online and have it installed by a Tesla Certified Installer.

Mobile Connectors and Adapters

If you don’t want to install a Wall Connector, you can purchase a Mobile Connector and plug into a standard three-prong, 120 volt outlet. A 120 volt outlet will supply 3 to 4.8 kilometers of range per hour of charge. If you charge overnight and drive less than 45 to 60 kilometers per day, this option should meet your typical charging needs.

You can also purchase an adapter bundle and charge with other outlet types. Commonly used in homes to power larger appliances, a 240 volt outlet will supply up to 48.2 kilometers of range per hour of charge.

On the Road

When you’re traveling in your Tesla vehicle or away from where you normally park, there are three main charging options to keep your vehicle charged on the go.

Superchargers

Superchargers are the fastest charging option when you’re away from home, allowing you to charge your vehicle up to 320 kilometers in 15 minutes. Designed to get you charged and back on the road as quickly as possible, we own and operate over 60,000 global Superchargers that are accessible on a 24/7 basis, located on major routes near convenient amenities.

Destination Charging

Destination Charging locations are comprised of popular hotels, restaurants, vineyards, resorts and other destinations that host Wall Connectors for customers to charge. There are over 40,000 Wall Connectors at Destination Charging locations in urban areas and rural locations, making it easy to charge when you arrive at your location or have a few hours to spare.

Third-Party Charging

Third-party charging stations can be located through Plugshare.com. Charging stations labeled as J1772 will work with a SAE J1772 adapter and 120 volt stations labeled as 120 volt will work with the Mobile Connector. When a Mobile Connector is not in use, we recommend storing it in your vehicle for easy access. For maximum flexibility on the road and to charge from a 240 volt outlet, store an adapter bundle in your vehicle as well.

Charge Speed Comparison

Each charging option provides different charge speeds. To view the max amperage of your Tesla vehicle, tap the lightning bolt icon on the touchscreen. To determine the max amperage of your electric vehicle, refer to your vehicle manufacturer’s guidance.
