Tesla Key Fob

You can pair your key fob from your vehicle's touchscreen by following these steps:

1. Tap 'Controls' > 'Locks' > 'Add Key.'
2. Follow the onscreen prompts to add a new key fob.

Once paired, the key list displays the new key fob. You can also customize the name of key fobs or unpair them at any time.

One of the reasons your key fob might not pair with your vehicle is that it is very cold. We recommend pairing the key fob when it is at room temperature. If you are still not able to pair your key fob, contact Roadside Assistance.

Key fobs with the Tesla logo printed on the flat side have Passive Entry.

Passive Entry automatically locks and unlocks your Tesla vehicle when the paired key fob is within a specified range.

Passive Entry enables automatically once the key fob is paired.

Your key fob battery should last for up to one year with normal use.

With the key placed button-side down on a soft surface, use a small, flat-bladed tool to release the bottom cover. Remove the battery by lifting it away from the retaining clips. Insert the new battery with the ‘+’ side facing up. Illustrated instructions and the compatible battery types can be found in your Owner’s Manual.

Your key fob is water resistant, but not waterproof. Exposure to heavy rain or water submersion may damage the key fob.

Your key fob may not be working due to several reasons, including a low battery. However, you can still access and drive your vehicle by placing the key fob directly on the B-pillar, as you would with a key card. This grants you a two-minute window to enter the vehicle and shift into drive. If you exceed this timeframe, simply touch the key fob to the center console again and shift into drive.
