Supercharging Other EVs

Access to an extensive, convenient and reliable fast-charging network is critical for large-scale EV adoption. That’s why, since opening our first Superchargers in 2012, we have been committed to rapid expansion of the network. Today, we have more than 60,000 Superchargers worldwide.

Select Supercharging stations are now accessible to other EV drivers in selected countries via the Tesla app (version 4.2.3 or higher). Tesla drivers can continue to use these stations as they always have, and we will be closely monitoring each site for congestion and listening to customers about their experiences.

It’s always been our ambition to open the Supercharger network to other EVs, and by doing so, encourage more drivers to go electric.

More customers using the Supercharger network enables faster expansion. Our goal is to learn and iterate quickly, while continuing to aggressively expand the network, so we can eventually welcome both Tesla and other EV drivers at every Supercharger worldwide.

If you own a Tesla vehicle, you can see the nearest Supercharger and real-time availability in the Tesla app by tapping ‘Location’ then the charging icon. If you own an EV made by another manufacturer, you can see available Superchargers by opening the Tesla app and tapping ‘Find a Charger’ or by using our interactive Find Us map.
We’re starting with a select number of sites so that we can review the experience, monitor congestion and assess feedback before expanding. Future sites will only be opened to other vehicles if there is available capacity.
As a Tesla driver you benefit from the seamless integration of charge post and vehicle, optimized route planning and battery pre-conditioning. With your Tesla, you’ll also have access to the lowest Supercharger pricing.
If you have added a Supercharging payment method in your Tesla Account, use the Tesla app. If you’re using a V4 Supercharger, you can also initiate a charge session directly from the Supercharger post.

If you do not have a Tesla Account, you can still charge by finding the Supercharger site online. Once you locate the charger, tap the ‘Charge Your EV’ button.

Download the Tesla app (version 4.2.3 or higher) for iOS or Android and create a Tesla Account.

Select ‘Charge Your EV’ and find your Supercharger site.

Add your payment method, plug-in your vehicle, select a stall and tap ‘Start Charging.’

Select ‘Stop Charging’ to complete your session.

Note: If you also own a Tesla, go to your profile in the Tesla app and swipe to find ‘Charge Your EV.’
Each Supercharger post has a label with a unique identifier at its base. If you are taking the cable from post 4A, simply select post 4A in the Tesla app to begin charging.

Note: If you don’t plug in within two minutes of selecting a post, your session will time out and you’ll need to start over.
Yes. All Tesla products and services can be accessed via the Tesla app. Tesla owners can use their existing account to charge other electric vehicles.

How do I pay for Supercharging?

You can pay at any Supercharger using the Tesla app by adding a payment method to your Tesla Account. At a limited number of sites you can pay directly at the Supercharger using a major credit card or mobile payment service.

If you do not own a Tesla vehicle, a temporary authorization hold will be placed on your payment method when a charging session starts via the Tesla app. Once charging is complete and successfully paid, the authorization hold will be released.

Note: Tesla never asks customers to complete a payment through a QR code.

Superchargers are pay-per-use. You can see pricing for each Supercharger site in the Tesla app or by using our interactive Find Us map. When your charging session is complete, an estimate of the final charges is shown in the Tesla app.

Pricing charged by third-parties through their apps may vary. Tesla determines the pricing shown and charged through the Tesla app and V4 Payment Terminals. Plug and Charge vehicles pay directly in their account. All prices include taxes and fees.

Charging rate is determined by the plug-in time and does not adjust if pricing changes during the charging session. Certain Supercharger stations offer on-peak and off-peak rates. The price per kWh to charge can be lowered with a Supercharging Membership. Prices may change from time to time.

Receipts from your touchless payment Supercharging sessions will be available on our website. Enter the charger name, date and payment information to find and view Supercharging receipts.
A Supercharging Membership allows EV owners to Supercharge at a lower price.* Tesla owners are automatically members.

Note: Supercharging Memberships allow you to use the benefits on all EVs you own. You do not need to purchase a membership for each vehicle.

To sign up for a Supercharging Membership in the Tesla app, follow these steps.

Open the Tesla app.

Tap the menu in the top-right corner.

Tap ‘Charging.’

Tap ‘Membership.’

Tap the ‘Sign Up’ button.

Once you sign up for a Supercharging Membership, a membership fee will be charged to your designated Supercharging payment method. Member pricing will then be applied to all Supercharging sessions at select sites.

The membership fee is non-refundable, and you are able to cancel your Supercharging Membership at any time.

To cancel a Supercharging Membership, follow these steps:

Open the Tesla app.

Tap the menu in the top-right corner.

Tap ‘Charging.’

Tap ‘Membership.’

Tap the ‘Cancel’ button.

Yes. The same logic and fee structure applies to both Tesla vehicles and other EVs to help ensure stalls are open for everyone to charge. Learn more about how idle fees work.
No. Our Superchargers that are accessible to all EV owners do not require a membership. Supercharging Memberships are available for EV owners using the Tesla app to lower the cost of charging across the network. Tesla owners are automatically members.

Certain Supercharger site layouts may not be suitable for some vehicles. Do not obstruct other vehicles by parking over the lines if the cable cannot comfortably reach your vehicle.
Supercharging for other electric vehicles is only accessible for CCS-enabled vehicles. If a Supercharger post has two cables or an installed adapter, other EVs can only charge with the CCS connector. Tesla is unable to accommodate vehicles that do not fully comply with CCS communication and safety protocols. If you encounter any issues while charging your vehicle, reach out to Tesla Customer Support or your vehicle manufacturer.
