The 8GB eMMC Recall covers 8GB embedded multimedia card malfunctions due to accumulated wear. Please see the initial announcement for full details about what’s covered under the recall.
Please note, any paid repair conducted for the part and condition described above after April 9, 2021, is not eligible for reimbursement.
Customers who previously paid out of pocket for an eligible repair under the conditions of the 8GB eMMC Recall may be eligible for reimbursement.
Prior repairs completed by a non-Tesla service provider may be eligible for reimbursement up to $3860. To receive reimbursement for third-party repairs, you should provide documentation that clearly shows the repair was performed to address the issue covered under the 8GB eMMC Recall, falls within the recall period and that the repair was completed on or before April 9, 2021.
If your vehicle is subject to the condition covered under 8GB eMMC Recall, you will see the reimbursement claim form on your Tesla Account page. Please log into your Tesla account online and complete the form.
We have already identified potentially reimbursable repairs performed by Tesla and pre-determined your reimbursement eligibility as much as possible. These repairs will auto populate in the form with repair dates, reimbursement eligibility and additional details. You will also have the opportunity to submit information about third party repairs.
Please note that this is the only way to apply for a reimbursement. Tesla Service Centers and Customer Support teams do not have the ability to process or provide updates on the status of reimbursement requests.
If you do not see this option in your account, it is most likely that repair(s) performed by Tesla on your vehicle does not qualify for the condition covered by the 8GB eMMC Recall. This may be for one or several of the reasons. Please see our initial announcement for full details on what’s covered under the recall.
Reimbursement claims can be submitted up to two years after the date of payment for repairs covered under the 8GB eMMC Recall, or by April 9, 2023. If the date of payment for your eligible repair is older than two years, then your claim can be submitted up to one year after the date of this reimbursement notice, or by March 2, 2022.
Your claim may take up to 60 days to review after receipt. Once our review is complete, we will notify you by email of our decision to approve or deny your claim. If your claim is approved, it may take three to four additional weeks to receive your reimbursement check. If your claim is denied, learn more about why your reimbursement claim was denied.
If your reimbursement claim is approved, a check will be sent to the mailing address provided with the request.
If your claim is denied, we will notify you of our decision by email within 60 days after receiving your claim. The notice will explain the reason(s) for denial. Common reasons for denial include:
The repair was not for the condition described in the 8GB eMMC Recall;
The vehicle did not contain an original Tesla-supplied eMMC component at the time of repair;
The vehicle was not originally equipped with the recalled component and therefore is not subject to 8GB eMMC Recall.
After you receive Tesla’s decision by email to approve or deny your claim, if you have questions about the decision, believe that your claim was incomplete when originally submitted, or want Tesla to reconsider the decision, then please reply to the email and include all additional supporting documentation. Please note that subsequent reviews will delay the processing of your claim.
If you paid for Tesla’s Infotainment Upgrade after Tesla Service diagnosed that your vehicle’s eMMC was malfunctioning due to the condition described in the 8GB eMMC Recall, then you may be eligible for reimbursement up to the cost of the 8GB eMMC repair available at the time of your upgrade.
However, if you had an active warranty or warranty adjustment program that would have covered the condition described in the 8GB eMMC Recall and you chose to purchase the Infotainment Upgrade instead, then you will not be eligible for any reimbursement.
Reimbursement is calculated based on the cost of labor and parts at the time of the repair, along with any applicable taxes. If an invoice containing an eligible repair job includes labor and/or replacement parts not covered under the 8GB eMMC Recall, then costs associated with that labor and/or parts are not eligible for reimbursement. Only costs associated with replacement of the 8GB eMMC due to accumulated wear will be reimbursed.
